BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has asserted that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was the first to propose political reforms in the country, well before the current wave of discussions began. He emphatically declared that his party remains “committed to implementing the announced 31-point reform blueprint.”
Rahman made these remarks while virtually addressing a memorial meeting held yesterday (November 5, 2024) to mark the sixth death anniversary of senior BNP leader Tariqul Islam.
BNP Claims Authorship of Reform Agenda
Addressing the memorial gathering, Tarique Rahman stated, “Many individuals are talking about reforms today, but it was the BNP that proposed reforms before anyone else.” This statement is considered significant in political circles, particularly as extensive discussions on state and electoral system reforms are currently underway among various political parties in the country.
BNP leaders maintain that Tarique Rahman’s 31-point state reform blueprint offers a comprehensive roadmap for resolving the country’s current political and economic crises. This blueprint includes promises related to restoring democracy, balancing power, reforming the Election Commission, and other public welfare policies (such as the ‘Family Card’ and the Teesta issue).
